DESCRIPTION:This program series looks at Miami’s history\, from early settlers to its current evolution into a global city. Discussion points will include immigration\, civil rights\, gentrification\, and other topics that help tell the story of the Magic City. \nMusic and The Civil Rights Movement \nJoin us for a conversation about the role of spirituals\, gospel\, and R&B evolving to Soul music played during the Civil Rights era in Miami. Hear personal accounts from Dr. Marvin Dunn and Sam Moore “The Legendary Soul Man.” \nDr. Marvin Dunn is a retired chairman of the Department of Psychology at Florida International University and the author of the book Black Miami in the Twentieth Century. \nSam Moore is a Miami native vocalist who was a member of the soul and R&B group Sam & Dave from 1961 to 1981. He is a member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame\, the Grammy Hall of Fame (for “Soul Man”)\, and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame. \nFREE and open to the public\nLight refreshments will be available.
