SUMMARY:Annual Miami City Cemetery Walking Tour
DESCRIPTION:Connect with the past on a walking tour of the Miami City Cemetery with Resident Historian\, Dr. Paul S. George and HistoryMiami Museum’s Coordinator of Education Programs and Community Engagement\, Ingrid E. Argueta. Founded in 1897\, just a year after the city’s incorporation\, this historic graveyard is a monument to so many of the people who helped shape the early history of the Magic City. Hear stories of notable Miami residents\, including the civil rights leader Reverend Theodore Gibson\, “Mother of Miami” Julia Tuttle\, and Bernard Mackey of the Ink Spots Quartet. View the final resting place of Carrie B. Miller\, whose body was encased in cement to preserve her sleeping form. \n\n\n\nAll are welcome to come as you are or in costume! \n\n\n\nMembers: $25\, Non-Members: $35\n\n\n\n\n\n\n    Register \n    \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFeatured Speakers:\n\n\n\n\nPaul S. George\, Ph.D.Resident Historian\n\n\n\nFor over three decades\, HistoryMiami Museum’s Resident Historian Dr. Paul S. George has toured his way to local\, national\, and international acclaim with his continuing series of historic tours. Through walking\, coach\, and boat tour experiences\, Dr. George has welcomed tour participants on a memorable journey of South Florida through its historic neighborhoods\, landmarks\, and sites. As a Miami native\, author\, and former college professor\, Dr. George has gained fame for his uncanny ability to recall the most impressive details about the people and places that make South Florida so unique. \n\n\n\n\n\nIngrid E. ArguetaCoordinator of Education Programs and Community Engagement\n\n\n\nIngrid E. Argueta was born in Guatemala and immigrated to Miami when she was 7 years old. Although not a native Miamian\, she is a 305-er at heart. Ingrid has remained true to her indigenous roots and is passionate about Native American history and culture. She is best known for her eco-history tours of Miami’s historic sites\, neighborhoods\, and waterways. Please bring a flashlight\, as the cemetery will be dark after sunset. Restrooms are available onsite at the cemetery. The check-in table will be located near the Burdine crypt. Please enter the cemetery through the entrance on NE 2nd Avenue. 	\n                                \n                                                            \n                        \n                    \n                \n                            \n                    \n                        \n                            \n                                Parking\n                                \n                            \n                        \n                      \n\n                    \n                        \n                                                    \n                                \n                                    There is limited parking available inside the cemetery along the driveway. If you prefer to park outside of the cemetery\, there is a lot just north of the cemetery\, across the street from Temple Israel off NE 19th Street.
