SUMMARY:Panel Discussion: CITIZEN - Race and Identity Through Conversation
DESCRIPTION:Join HistoryMiami Museum in partnership with Tigertail Productions for a discussion on what it means to belong and to not want to belong. Inspired by the performance piece CITIZEN\, explore the anthropological\, scientific\, and lived experience of race and identity in the United States.\n\nSpeakers:\n\nReggie Wilson\, Artistic Director\, choreographer and performer. Founder of the Fist & Heel Performance Group and creator of CITIZEN a contemporary piece that showcases the exploration of group and individual identity\, history\, and belonging.\n\nAugusto Soledade\, a 2008 Guggenheim Fellow\, is the Founder Artistic Director and resident choreographer for Augusto Soledade Brazzdance\, formally known as Brazz Dance Theater Incorporated\, in Miami.\n\nCristina Favretto\, is the Head of Special Collections at the University of Miami Libraries.  She is a curator\, a librarian\, an archivist\, a feminist\, and an artist.  She has had a shadow life as the lead singer in a post-punk cabaret band\, a performance artist\, and a political activist. She loves connecting artists of all types with rare books\, manuscripts\, archives\, and historical materials\, and watching the inspiration that ensues.\n\nDr. Jafari Allen\, Associate Professor of African American Studies\, and Anthropology; and the Women’s\, Gender\, and Sexuality Studies Program Director of Graduate Studies\, UM.
