Mystic Creatures & Art Therapy

Students at Thomas Jefferson Biscayne Gardens K8 Academy & Rockway Middle School, learned three emotion-based art lessons used in MDPS Special Ed classrooms. Each lesson was adapted to go with the Mythic Creatures exhibition at the HistoryMiami Museum. These included Oceanscapes, where they learned about deep sea ocean creatures and coral reefs. They then created art animals based on water creatures and the Mythic Creatures exhibition. They learned how to sketch them and used a wide range of media. In addition, students learned about landforms and participated in an “Into the Woods” project where we created land spaces for our creatures. Students were encouraged to connect to these projects with their own interests and passions.
