Salary Range: $125,000 – $175,000; commensurate with experience

Position Overview: The Senior Director of Development is a dynamic leader and effective manager, adept at building relationships with the utmost integrity. As a passionate advocate for the Museum, this role involves energizing existing and potential supporters, balancing relationships, and task-focused responsibilities. The Senior Director of Development oversees current fundraising efforts and implements a strategy to support a new phase of growth. Responsibilities include leading philanthropic efforts, crafting fundraising strategies, and engaging diverse donors across individual, corporate, foundation, and government sectors. Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Identify and cultivate donors, developing solicitation plans with involvement from museum staff, board, and volunteers.
  • Devise strategies for approaching foundations and corporations, overseeing fulfillment of sponsorship agreements.
  • Research, solicit, and steward major donors. 
  • Formulate and oversee a comprehensive plan to maintain and increase upper-level membership, promoting a culture of philanthropy. 
  • Leverage current programs and events to enhance donor engagement. 
  • Manage department budget, monitor revenue, oversee gift processing and grants coordination. 
  • Supervise and support Development team which includes membership manager and contracted grant writer 
  • Collaborate with CEO/Executive Director to develop strategy and budget aligned with annual programmatic needs. 
  • Support strategic goals, focusing on revenue growth and community impact. 
  • Ensure regular donor communications, acknowledgments, and progress updates. 
  • Collaborate with Marketing Department to coordinate and execute communications and marketing campaigns.
  • Maintain an active understanding of assigned programs and translate them into opportunities for donor support. 
  • Plan and execute fundraising and donor cultivation events in collaboration with other departments. 
  • Assist CEO/Executive Director in supporting the Board of Trustees in fundraising initiatives. 
  • Represent HistoryMiami at various civic and community events. 
  • Demonstrate commitment to HistoryMiami’s mission, vision, and values. 
  • Make significant and continuous progress toward campaign or multi-year project goals. 
  • Perform other assigned job-related duties.

 Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree preferred, or Bachelor’s degree with eight years of relevant experience. 
  • Extensive experience in development, non-profit marketing, or a related field, with a focus on major gift fundraising. 
  • Comprehensive background in non-profit development, ideally within a museum or cultural institution. 
  • Experience managing all stages of donor development, from identification and research to cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship; and closing gifts with significant institutional impact.
  • Proven success in soliciting major or planned gifts, showcasing a track record of building donor relationships, and securing gifts in a six-figure range. 
  • Exceptional strategic, analytical, and organizational skills with acute attention to detail. 
  • Demonstrated leadership in a comprehensive development operation, collaborating closely with senior staff in solicitation and cultivation. 
  • Enthusiastic self-starter capable of self-evaluation regarding leadership, performance, and professional growth, able to work independently with moderate supervision. 
  • Flexibility and adept decision-making in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Persuasive and articulate communicator, active listener, and proficient in written and presentation skills. 
  • Excellent relationship-building skills, internally and externally, with the ability to effectively represent the Museum. 
  • Familiarity with accounting procedures, budget control methods, and policies.
